Finding Pokemon using the Radar is actually a bit cooler. Some of the high-number-of-steps-required Pokemon might not show up - if you don't mind dumping your Watts into your HG/SS game, you can jump out and jump back into your stroll - it'll reset the Pokemon that you can find.

Not only that, you can also switch routes - enabling your high step count to transfer, as long as it is the same day.

In either case, you'll still need to regain the 10 Watts needed to use the Pokeradar.

I've been pretty religiously keeping a Pokemon in the Pokewalker - you'll need a lot of Watts to unlock the courses.
