Platinum Elite Four

To start this blog off, I am battling the elite four in platinum, I just failed my 3rd try with them and am trying to work out how to beat just 2 Pokemon that I am having trouble with.

These 2 would be Champion Cynthia's Garchomp and Togekiss.

Champion Cynthia's Garchomp has these moves
  • Flamethrower
  • Earthquake
  • Dragon Rush
  • ?
and

Champion Cynthia's Togekiss, clearly i need to look into this one, didn't write down what it had.
  • Psychic
  • Air Slash
  • ?

  1. Hmmm...I don't recall. Sharing some tips though:

    1. Oh man. I love Garchomp. If I had trained it, it would have Rock Slide for the final move.

    2. Togekiss is an awesome Pokemon, especially in Platinum's "Sinnoh-Dex only" format. It has some specials it gets, like Aura Sphere and Extreme Speed, which are super (and easy to breed).

    3. What you really need is a good ice-move. Remember Strawberry, the lovely little Magikarp you traded me on the day of the release? It strolled in as a level 55 or so Gyarados - I think I Dragon Dance'd it a couple of times early at the start of Cynthia's battle, healed it once, and then wiped out the entire set. (Ice Fang, Dragon Dance, Bite, Waterfall.)

A Pokemon with a good move set can make all the difference. We should start a blog about it...

  2. I picked a different set of moves for my Gyarados, and its not working out well. Surf, Hyper Beam, Dragon Dance & Hydro Pump

  3. Dragon Dance boosts attack and speed, both of which Gyarados is good at. Sadly, Surf, Hyper Beam, and Hydro Pump rely on your Special Attack stat, which Gyarados Pokemon are not necessarily known for. You know, I think your Gyarados reminds me a lot of my first one - I think I even wasted my precious-at-the-time Ice Beam.

I think one of the challenges of the Elite 4 + Cynthia is that you battle them with the Pokemon that got you there - it's likely that your Pokemon have a lot of EV points randomly distributed thoughout their stats, and that the Natures aren't necessarily the best ones.

Well, one of the challenges. I think the next tough-tough trainer challenge is Palmer in the Battle Tower - Milotic, Rhyperior, and Dragonite

  4. Milotic is a good counter to Garchomp I think. Should be able to take a hit and finish him off, then recover.

With Tegokis, I suppose anything with a good fighting attack, or something that just tanks it out.

I don't have silver so I'm not sure what's added.

I tend not to get too fancy with my pokemon move. My two gyryados have fairly mundane stuff although I did focus more on physical over special attacks. Oddly I don't have much in the way of STAB moves on mine. My champ has Snote Edte, Earthquake, Protect and Hydro Pump. My Shiny Gyro has Earthquake, Dragon Rage, Bite, and Surf, but he's only level 30.

  5. I'm siding with Jimmer in stories. I burned my very special Ice Beam to stop the Garchomp sweep and bring Togekiss to the ground.

  6. I agree with Sigfried on Milotic - my Battle Tower team relies a lot on it...Ice Beam, Surf, Toxic, and Recover. Toxic/Recover can take out a fair range of Pokemon, Surf is its secondary attack, but Ice Beam is the MVP when it comes to Dragon-types for me. (Flying gets hit by Lightning- or Rock-moves as well, which are on the other Pokemon.)
